Sadik Ahmed
31-year-old Sadik Ahmed was born in Bangladesh and grew up in Stamford Hill, north London. He graduated in from the NFTS in 2006.
His first feature, The Last Thakur, an intense contemporary Bangla-Western which he directed as well as shot, is the first product of an initiative between the NFTS and film distributor Curzon Artificial Eye to help new filmmakers develop ultra low-budget feature films. Filmed on location in Bangladesh, the film develops a story around characters first seen in Tanju Miah, a short film Ahmed directed while studying cinematography at the School.
Sight and Sound magazine named The Last Thakur “one of the most confident British debut features since Asif Kapadia’s The Warrior (2001)… with which it shares an Asian location and language and a welcome belief in the primacy of visual storytelling”.
The Last Thakur is released in the UK on 26 June 2009. Sadik Ahmed is currently developing his next film, a Bengali cop thriller.
