Alan Hawkshaw Foundation & the PRS Foundation Scholar 2007-2008

I have been a musician for almost as long as I can remember and my love of film followed soon after. Hearing John Coltrane's A Love Supreme at the age of seven and working my way through most of Hitchcock's films a couple of years later were particularly defining early experiences.

I studied music at Cambridge University and have been a finalist in several music competitions, including the 2002 BBC Young Composer of the Year, as well as having works performed on national radio, including on BBC Radio 3's Late Junction. Two albums released under my own name have each been praised in the jazz press. My other musical experiences include having compositions performed in workshops by the Britten Sinfonia and playing drums for the Cambridge Footlights. The wide range of film projects that I have worked on at the NFTS have allowed me to work with a diversity of genres and techniques, which is something that I greatly enjoy.
