On graduating from the NFTS, Michael was assigned to direct the three-parter series Brond, before being picked to direct the critically acclaimed Scandal, (co-executive produced by current NFTS director Nik Powell) which dealt with the infamous Profumo affair. Hollywood beckoned, and he went on to direct big screen hits including Memphis Belle and Doc Hollywood, in which he also played a small role. The Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe nominated Rob Roy on which he was also executive producer, confirmed his position as a first-class director, and he has since gone on to make The Jackal, Shooting Dogs, City by the Sea, and most recently Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction, starring Sharon Stone.
