NFTS graduates represent the UK at Cannes

Cannes spotters taking their eyes off the red carpet for a few minutes will notice another fiercely contested competition being fought out on the festival screens for the coveted Palme d’Or for Short Films.

Representing the UK is After Tomorrow, written and directed by NFTS graduate Emma Sullivan - a psycho-suspense thriller with a twist that really works. Produced by fellow NFTS graduate Annalise Davis, through Screen East’s Digital Shorts Scheme, the film also showcases the work of NFTS Alumni Eduard Grau, DoP, and editor Agnieszka Liggett.

Widely regarded as an exclusive and influential showcase for upcoming directing talent, the Official Selection 2009 is giving a world premiere to just nine new shorts from as far afield as Latvia, Croatia and New Zealand.

Another Alumni film on show - selected for the prestigious International Critics Week strand - is Together, written by Eicke Bettinga and Zorana Piggott, who respectively directed and produced. Starring Matt Smith, the new Doctor Who, Together is the only British entry for the Critics prize.
