SCHOLARSHIPS

UK students on MA courses

The School awards maintenance bursaries and scholarships worth some £700,000 a year to help UK students on MA courses with their tuition fees and living costs. We offer more bursaries and scholarships relative to the size of our student body than any other top educational institution.

  • UK students may apply for a maintenance bursary towards their living costs

  • UK students may apply for an NFTS scholarship, which can contribute some or all of their MA Tuition Fees.

Awards to UK MA students for the academic year starting January 2009 range from £1,000 to £9,000, depending on individual need. Our policy is such that, if you are a UK citizen or resident, you should not allow financial worries to deter you from applying for a place here at the NFTS.

When you are offered a place on a course the School will provide advice about potential sources of independent funding.

UK students who have worked in the Industry for at least two years may qualify for a grant towards living expenses from the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund. Students with relevant experience who have been offered a place on a course should apply direct to the CTBF.

Several UK Regional Screen Agencies offer scholarships to students from within their region. Some are arranged through the School as NFTS Scholarships, while others must be applied for direct, in competition with students at other institutions. Please contact the Registry, or your local Regional Screen Agency, for more information.

International students on MA courses

If you have officially confirmed UK residency status you will be entitled to apply for a maintenance bursary. You will be required to supply confirmation from the Home Office of your residency status.

International students may also apply for NFTS scholarships. However, as we are the UK's National Film and Television School, priority is given to UK students when allocating scholarships. In the event that you do not secure an NFTS scholarship you will need to make independent financial arrangements for your tuition fees and maintenance. You should make early enquiries into International student support offered by your own government and education/training and cultural ministries and institutions and private foundations.

There are also British Government-funded scholarship schemes available through the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Overseas Development Administration or United Nations. You can find out more from the British Council, Embassy or High Commission in your own country or from www.britishcouncil.org and www.educationuk.org. The application deadline for these scholarships may fall before our selection process is completed, so you should ask if you can make an application in principle even though you may not yet have been offered a place at the School.

When you are offered a place on a course the School will provide advice about potential sources of independent funding.
