MA COURSES
SFX/VFX

Curriculum

The SFX/VFX course is modular. You’ll control your own projects from start to finish. You learn by “doing” as well as understanding theory, developing a variety of practical and creative skills from planning, budgeting, storyboarding and pre-visualisation through filming, CGI creation, VFX creation and onto post production and delivery.

Several modules are shared with other departments within the NFTS - such as the popular Take One Painting project - and the SFX/VFX students participate individually, or as teams, on many of the other NFTS students’ film and TV projects as VFX artists or SFX technicians. You learn what to do and then get a chance to do it for real.

For the duration of the course, each SFX/VFX student has a dedicated computer workstation loaded with the latest 2D and 3D software applications including Maya, Nuke, PF Track, After Effects/Photoshop and many other specialist software applications. SFX/VFX students can create effects for multiple projects in parallel with NFTS student productions and workshops. Problem solving is
fundamental.

During the 2nd year, you’ll be encouraged to explore the options offered by working on the 2nd year graduation film and television projects, often leading to specialising further within a particular area of VFX, potentially guiding you towards the next stage in your chosen career.
